Since the resignation of John Boehner, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has been rounding up support to become the next Speaker of the House.
This morning, eleven members of PA’s Congressional delegation announced their support of the representative from California.
They were:
Rep. Joe Pitts
Rep. Bill Shuster
Rep. Tim Murphy
Rep. Charlie Dent
Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson
Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick
Rep. Lou Barletta
Rep. Mike Kelly
Rep. Tom Marino
Rep. Pat Meehan
Rep. Ryan Costello
The eleven also issued a joint statement.
“There is no more important time for our nation’s future than the present, and it is vital that House Republicans come together to make Washington work again. We believe that Kevin McCarthy is the right person to lead our conference and the House, and we endorse his candidacy for Speaker of the House.”
This gives McCarthy the support of every Congressional Republican from Pennsylvania with the exceptions of Scott Perry and Keith Rothfus.
Congressman Pitts has also announced his support of Steve Scalise to fill McCarthy’s shoes as the next House Majority Leader.
