11/17 Morning Buzz

Good morning politicos, and welcome to the Buzz.

Smartest Harrisburg Staffers: Only 2 more days to submit your nominations for smartest staffers in the Capitol. Be sure to include a name, title and a few reasons why they ought to be on the list.

GOP Senate debate tonight: At least four Republican Senate hopefuls, including Steve Welch, will take part in a Delco Tea Party debate tonight. But no worries if you miss it (like Sam Rohrer and Tom Smith are going to) – there’s already another forum scheduled for PA Society weekend! Tom Fitzgerald of the Inky, Jim O’Toole of the Post-Gazette and Colby Itkowitz of the Morning Call will ask the questions.

Rohrer Announcing Monday: After months of hinting, Sam Rohrer will announce his candidacy for U.S. Senate in a town hall meeting on Monday.  He will join an already crowded field vying for the GOP nomination and the chance to unseat incumbent Senator Bob Casey.

Christiana for Congress: Beaver County State Rep. Jim Christiana announced Wednesday that he has formed an exploratory committee that will allow him to test the fundraising waters for a potential congressional run.

Raja Was Right (Sort of): Before his 24 point defeat, the Republican warned that higher property taxes lay in store for residents if they voted for Democrat Rich Fitzgerald. The Pa. Supreme Court and Allegheny County Council are prepared to prove him right.

SEIU-PA Endorses Obama: The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) of Pennsylvania officially announced its endorsement of President Barack Obama in for the 2012 election. As one observer quipped, it would only be news if they didn’t.
