Inaugurations, conventions and pleas. See who made this week’s list!
Ed Rendell. Four years ago, Governor Rendell left Harrisburg. The voters had just elected a Republican successor and his approval ratings had taken a dive. Now, one of his old cabinet heads has been elected Governor and another former cabinet head will serve as the new Governor’s Chief of Staff. This week we learned that Rendell will serve as Chair of Wolf’s Inaugural Committee, giving him a front-row seat to plan the coronation of his Democratic successor. That fact, combined with another possible campaign, must make the ex-Gov very happy.
Robert Kerns. Any week you plead “no contest” to an indecent assault charge is a bad week. Former Montgomery County GOP Chairman Robert Kerns sexually assaulted an employee at his law firm during a party. Kerns was sentenced to two years of probation and must register as a sex offender for the next 15 years. Suffice to say his career in politics is over.
Dwayne Woodruff. The former Pittsburgh Steeler who’s been on the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas since 2005 announced his intention to run for the State Supreme Court. Due to his past career, Woodruff has high name ID and he’ll be running in what our readers believe to be 2015’s most important elections. In the wake of the court’s recent upheavals, Woodruff has the opportunity to be a judicial standout in the future.
Philadelphia. The City of Brotherly Love had a great week. Philly was officially named one of three finalists for the 2016 Democratic National Convention. PA’s largest city will compete with Brooklyn and Columbus to be the center of the 2016 campaign for a few days and host the formal nomination of the Democratic candidate. Plus, we’d be remiss to not mention the 33-10 victory the Eagles secured against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving.
The tweet of the week goes to BillyPenn’s Chris Krewson, who had this astute observation about the internal poll released by Philadelphia Mayoral candidate Lynne Abraham.
Lynne Abraham's pollsters like Lynne Abraham's chances for Philly mayor, says Lynne Abraham's campaign. http://t.co/iJLaS52nx2 #echoechoecho
