11/3 Ups & Downs

Angela Couloumbis gives insight into the capitol, Hafer avoids jail, medical marijuana patients begin registering, state related university students avoid tuition increases, and four are charged in the 197th state House district.  See who made this week’s Ups & Downs!

Up-Arrow4-2Angela Couloumbis.  Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Angela Couloumbis opened up this week about covering the state capitol as a female reporter.  The courage to tell her story and shed light on how those in power behave is a public service to everyone in the state.

Up-Arrow4-2

Barbara Hafer. Former state Treasurer Barbara Hafer avoided jail time after pleading guilty to lying to the FBI.  Hafer faced up to six months in jail, but was sentenced instead to three years probation, a $50,000 fine, and 500 hours of community service.

Down Arrow

197th State House District.  Four elections officers in the special election in the 197th state House district were charged with interference after an investigation by the Attorney General’s office and the Philly DA’s office.  The charges will continue to feed the Republican narrative of voter fraud and corruption in Philadelphia.

Up-Arrow4-2

State Related University Students.  The students at the four state related universities avoided a mid year tuition increase after Governor Wolf signed a funding package for the schools into law.

Down Arrow

SEPA Republicans.  The top three most vulnerable seats on the our latest vulnerability rankings are southeast Republican seats.  These seats will likely be heavily targeted by national and local democrats as we get closer to 2018.

Up-Arrow4-2

Medical Marijuana.  The state started signing up patients and doctors for the medical marijuana program, one of the last major steps needed to begin the program in 2018.

  1. Pretty Boring in week before an election and a budget getting done. Nothing from around the state that can make this list?
