12/5 Morning Buzz

Good morning politicos, and welcome to the Buzz. This week is going to be PACKED with political news. New congressional maps are due to be rolled out on Wednesday, with plenty of leaked tidbits in the mean time. And the political class around the state is looking toward this weekend’s Pa. Society fare.

The Full 2011 PA Society List of Events
It’s that time of year again – Pa. politicos have their sights set on the Big Apple for the 113th Pennsylvania Society festivities. Here is your one-stop shop for the marathon of receptions, dinners, cocktail gatherings and open bar events.

AFL-CIO Boosts Casey: The AFL-CIO will spend over $170,000 to air television ads in support of Democratic Senator Bob Casey. The spots are scheduled to begin today.

New ED for HDCC: Multiple sources indicate that the caucus has selected Ethan Smith, a young operative from Pittsburgh, to steer the ship in the 2012 cycle as the House Democratic Campaign Committee’s Executive Director.

Senate Debate: Several U.S. Senate hopefuls debated Saturday in York, along with U.S. Rep. Todd Platts and conservative challenger Ted Waga. The YDR has the story.

Establishment Support for Pileggi? Around the state, insiders are calling Dominic Pileggi a “game changer” in the crowded GOP primary to take on Bob Casey. But a big assumption by Pileggi’s supporters – that Steve Welch will get out if he gets in – may be too large a leap.

Casey Missed Philly Event: Senator Casey took lumps for missing Wednesday’s visit by President Obama to Scranton, especially in light of the fact that he had a fundraiser scheduled in Philadelphia Thursday evening. It turns out that the Senate had votes both days, and Casey missed both events.

Rick Santorum a Hit With the Ladies: As some presidential hopefuls struggled terminally with outreach to the fairer sex (*cough* Herman Cain), Pennsylvania’s own Rick Santorum is getting along swimmingly with the GOP’s leading women.

And don’t miss last week’s Ups & Downs! U.S. Senate news, redistricting, a presidential visit, Pa. row offices, and more featured in Friday’s list.
