Pennsylvania gets a perfect score for government transparency, Kathleen Kane wins a hypothetical race happening in three years and Politico airs on candidate’s dirty laundry. See what else made this week’s Ups & Downs.

The General Assembly. Pennsylvania’s governing bodies are no stranger to criticism, from pay raises to scandal to inaction but this past week they were finally complimented. The Sunlight Foundation, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that measures government transparency awarded the General Assembly an A on their openness. Only 11 states received this ranking.

Marjorie Margolies. The former congresswoman running to regain her old seat gets a down arrow this week for her long form profile in Politico Magazine. The article chronicled her husband’s conviction in a Ponzi scheme, her personal bankruptcy, frivolous-seeming legal activity, family connections to the Clintons and her very brief career in Congress.

Tom Wolf. The millionaire, governor candidate and former Department of Revenue Secretary announced this week that while he will attend PA Society, he will not be hosting a swanky reception in Manhattan. Instead, he will be donating $5,000 each to three hunger charities.  He’s been widely applauded for the populist move, which impressively he pulled off without stepping on the toes of the event or the people who go there.

Allyson Schwartz. The congresswoman is an honorary co-chair of Third Way, an organization whose leaders recently blasted progressives like Elizabeth Warren and Bill de Blasio. Progressive activists have subsequently been knocking Schwartz. But she gets an up because yet another poll showed her leading the Democratic primary – even with possible candidate Jack Wagner in the race.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane. Public Policy Polling (PPP) dropped a megaton of polling data on Pennsylvania races, and Kane was a big winner. In a hypothetical contest between Toomey and Attorney General Kathleen Kane, Kane holds a 46% to 42% lead with just 12% not sure with almost three years until that match up would even happen.

Tom Corbett. We took last week off because of the holiday, but can we talk about that PPP poll now? The Governor trailed every Democrat he was tested against by double digits. His job approval was negative even among Republicans. Election day is less than a year away and his numbers haven’t been moving.
