1/3 Morning Buzz

cash2014 campaigns begin to show their fundraising cards and Harper Polling shows good news for Senator Toomey. The full Buzz will return on Monday. Good morning, politicos. Here’s the Buzz.

PA-Gov: Schwartz Raises $6.5 Mil: Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz boasted a powerful warchest in a preview of her campaign finance report.

Harper Poll: Toomey Beats Kane or Sestak in 2016: A new poll shows Senator Pat Toomey defeating either of his high profile opponents in 2016.

Q4: Meehan Banks 274K: Pat Meehan ended 2013 with more than $1.5 million cash on hand, the Congressman’s campaign announced Thursday.

Smith Raises Over $230K for Lt. Gov.: Bradford County Commissioner releases a sneak preview of his fundraising report.

Wagner Raises $267K in State Senate Race: Conservative businessman Scott Wagner brought in an impressive fourth quarter haul in his bid to win Pennsylvania’s 28th Senatorial District.

Legislative Election Updates:

HD-8: Jeffrey P. Black, a lifelong Grove City resident and Borough Council Vice President, announces today his candidacy as a Republican for the Pennsylvania 8th Legislative District seat held by retiring State Representative Richard R. Stevenson.

“It will be an honor to follow in the footsteps of a great public servant like Dick Stevenson,” Black said.

HD-189: Liz Forrest of Delaware Twp. has entered the Democratic nomination race for the 189th district. If she wins the nomination, she will face Rep. Rosemary Brown in a rematch of their 2012 battle. Forrest served part time as legislative aide to former Rep. John Siptroth in the 189th District from 2005 to 2010.

“[Brown] added one more promise in the form of an election-year stunt lawsuit, which was supposed to fix the statewide education funding formula to be fairer to the Poconos, but has yet to be filed in any court almost two years later.  Photo ops and publicity stunts without meaningful legislation achieve nothing.  Lip service without leadership is useless to us,” said Forrest.

SD-50: Mercer County native Jane MacPherson is running to fill the Senate seat vacated by Bob Robbins’ retirement. Originally from Hermitage MacPherson has never held office and said that she is running to lower taxes.

“A group of people that were also upset with the taxes and the heavy tax burden that we have been having to bear in the state of Pennsylvania approached me and asked me so we met in the summer every week at local restaurants and just talking about what we could do,” said McPherson.

  1. Paindy is right! What kind of people are we anyhow? Bob guzzardi is the only one who can save us from corruption, cronyism, and crimogenic hospital boards!

  2. Here is question Jeff Romoff of UPMC, the Bakers and Tom Corbett won’t like: AG DiPasquale and Rep. Jimmy Christiana-Should the UPMC board force the Romoff’s to claw back Doug Romoff’s advertising fees back to the UPMC system? I am gullible so I truly believe Jeff Romoff played no role in hiring Doug. Jeff is a very hands-off trusting guy, who let’s his subordinates DO THE RIGHT THING. AG DiPasquale: Doug’s fees were more than a ham sandwich. http://hcrenewal.blogspot.com/2010/05/at-upmc-dealings-with-board-members.
