Councilwoman Rudiak Releases Final Report and Recommendations of Snow Task Force

Pittsburgh – Pittsburgh City Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak has released the Final Report and Recommendations of City Council Task Force on Emergency Operations and Snow Preparedness.  The report will be available online at snowtaskforce.pittsburghpa.gov by 2:00 PM today.  Council President Darlene M. Harris and Councilman Bruce A. Kraus also sat on the Task Force and contributed to the final report.

“This report will hopefully prompt some changes in how our City handles snow emergencies and other natural disasters in the future,” said Rudiak.  “Ultimately, the Mayor is responsible for making the types of operational changes recommended in the report.  My hope is that this document will be taken seriously and used as a constructive step forward in bettering our city services.”

The report makes nine key recommendations, including:

Developing streamlined emergency contracting procedures
Investing in heavy plowing equipment for the Department of Public Works
Implementing a GPS routing system for emergency vehicles, including snow plows
Updating the City’s emergency operations manual, as it currently includes no written plan for snow or other weather related emergencies

A physical copy of the report can be made available upon request.
