4/2 Ups & Downs

The President picks his favorites, Trump loses favor and we celebrate April Fools. See who made this week’s list!

Up Arrow1Katie McGinty. The Senate candidate won the endorsement of the biggest leaders of her party when President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden simultaneously endorsed her campaign. It’s clear the Democrats are in a full-court press for McGinty with TV ads, editorials and financial support. If she can’t pull off a win on April 26th with all this support, though, they’ll be no else to blame.

Down ArrowMichael Eakin. The former PA Supreme Court Justice was found guilty of misconduct by the Court of Judicial Discipline. Beyond the embarrassment and his career, Eakin will also have to pay a $50,000 fine. His $153,000 a year pension, however, is safe for now.

Up Arrow1Josh Shapiro. It was a banner week for Attorney General hopeful Josh Shapiro. First, Auditor General Eugene DePasquale endorsed his candidacy. Then, Philly City Council President Darrell Clarke cut an ad for him. To top it all off, the President of the United States threw his support behind Shapiro. The pressure is now on to take the Democratic nomination.

Down ArrowDonald Trump. The Keystone State could be key to The Donald’s electoral hopes. That could be a real problem for him, as Kasich gains ground while touring the commonwealth. Furthermore, prognosticators are predicting that Trump would lose PA to Clinton and also harm down-ballot candidates (our readers feel the same way). Not to mention the unflattering national headlines this week. As Trump himself might tweet “Sad!”

Up Arrow1April Fools. Wondering why we’re posting this on Saturday instead of Friday? Well yesterday was April Fools’ Day and we were busy with our annual fun. Check out our pieces here.

The tweet of the week goes to the Inquirer’s Chris Brennan for capturing the majesty of the campaign process in the world’s greatest democracy.

I modified your statement from Lindy Li, with some suitcases to land on

  3. Apparently, Seth Williams plays fast and loose not only with campaign money, but also with taxpayers’ money. Ha3 points out his hiring of his lawyer’s wife as 2nd in command. That needs to be investigated. But, there is also the unreported crime committed at Seth Williams’ house. See article below. Apparenty – a jilted lover slashed the tires on two City cars parked at Williams’ house. Instead of reporting it to the Police so the perpetrator could be arrested and pay for the damage to the vehicles, Seth covered it up and made the taxpayers pay for the repairs.

  4. I am Sam. Mark Cohen is our State Representative. We don’t need this guy Jared Solomon. He can’t fill Mark Cohen’s shoes. I agree with R. Jones.

  5. I really enjoyed the little bit of satire that took place on the Mark Cohen article about Jared Solomon (even though it disappeared). I hope that guy loses. Mark Cohen is the OUR State Representative. Jared is running such a negative campaign in our area that everyone is tired of hearing from him.

  6. This week’s UP ARROWS better include John Dougherty and LeSean McCoy – rich guys who used their position/power/money with Seth Williams to avoid handcuffs.

Dougherty has so far escaped handcuffs by giving money to the elected D.A. – Seth Williams. And rumor has it that Seth Williams will announce today that he is not charging McCoy – who was caught on video sucker-punching an off-duty police officer. Apparently – if you go out drinking, you are fair game to be sucker-punched and stomped by NFL players who are also out drinking.

Speaking of Seth Williams, when is someone going to force him to answer questions about how he is spending the taxpayers’ money?

Here’s Seth Williams’ Chief of Staff, Kathy Martin, defending Frank Fina and his racist, pervert buddies:

“Keeping them here [at the Philadelphia D.A.’s Office] working exhibits our faith in them that they’re smart, capable, hard-working, dedicated civil servants,” Kathy Martin said.

But their attitudes towards minorities, women and homosexuals is very disturbing, though. The fact that they shared the material with Judges they appeared in front of is even more disturbing. They created a group of people who all had the goods on each other. People that shared the same racist, woman-hating attitudes. And, once you were part of that group, the other members had a hammer they could hold over you.

We know that Frank Fina was one of the prosecutors in this group. He prosecuted people for mis-using their State computers. And then he used his State computer on this:https://www.flickr.com/photos/…. That is but one example. There are many others.

When AG Kane won, but before she took office, Fina finalized his “unjust” plea deal with Tyron Ali. Bruce Beemer called it “unjust.” Fina dropped all of the over 2,000 criminal charges that were pending against Ali. Fina also let Ali keep the $430K he stole from a non-profit set up to help children.

Con-man Ali’s lawyer is Bob Levant. Fina negotiated that sweet deal, in the 11th hour (right before Kane was set to take over) with Levant.

And now Fina is suing the AG’s Office for money. And guess who one of his lawyers is? Yep — Bob Levant.

Rumor has it that Bob Levant has also helped Seth Williams with the FBI’s criminal investigation into Williams.

A ways back, Seth Williams hired Frank Fina. Whether he knew of Fina’s “issues” when he hired him we may never know. But Williams certainly knows now. The Superior Court just called Fina’s conduct in the Penn State case “highly improper.”

“Chief of Staff” is a high paying job. Seth Williams hired Kathy Martin off the street into that job. She has zero general counsel experience and hardly any prosecutorial experience.

But – she is Bob Levant’s wife. Now – Seth Williams’ “Chief of Staff” is in the Press, speaking on behalf of the Philadelphia DA’s Office, defending and praising her husband’s racist client – Frank Fina.

Huge coincidence, huh?? I think not. It’s no wonder that Williams refuses to fire Fina. They are in bed together. Levant and Martin are on that stinky mattress too.

Is it OK that Kathy Martin, a high-paid City employee, has a financial interest in smearing the AG and propping up her husband’s client, Frank Fina?

re we fine with a DA that gives special treatment to rich people?

Something is rotten at the DA’s Office.

  8. Black Jack-

Sounds like she is going to keep it.

She’s already started claiming she’s going to run again. No idea for what office. Maybe she’ll throw a dart at a map to pick her next fiasco.

When you get past all her lies and bullshit, it’s amazing how terrible the campaign was. Her parents, by all accounts, sound like really nice people. It appears that they just spoiled and indulged her whims and ambitions, without a lick of “tough love” or realism. Steel is forged in fire.

Lindy was more like a porcelain figurine that thought she belonged on a pedestal in an earthquake zone.

She’s already claiming to be stronger and smarter for next time. Of course, she was claiming to be stronger and smarter than her opponents 6 months ago, we saw how that turned out.

She’s simply clueless, immature, phony and not ready for the real world. She’s missed out on the real lesson in her defeat: humility

Her arrogance is no substitute for it.

  9. Did Lindi Li Return all the Money she got in Contributions to her failed Campaign if Not she better get on the stick and give all the Money Back

  10. Ha3 – if appears that Seth Williams committed a crime. He has a duty to tell the Police who committed the crime. Tha tire-slasher should have had to pay for those tires – not the taxpayers.

Wonder who, from the DA’s Office, Seth Eilliams put in charge of that “investigation.” Hmmmmm ….. Wonder who it could have been .Hmmm …. Seth has some SERIOUS explaining to do.

Start with telling us what Unit led the “investigation” and who the Chirf of that Unit was. Did Seth Eilliams give a statement? Was he asked who slashed the tires on the City vehicles? LOL. He is self-destructing.

  11. Lucas
I thought they were interested in spending her money on their consultants and vendors.

  12. David Diano — yep, all true. Though I’d quibble with the assertion she was DCCC’s darling…they pretty clearly wanted nothing to do with her in either the 6th or the 7th. Those guys aren’t all that bright, but at least they know a narcissistic sociopath millennial when they spot one.

  13. Lucas-

I sent them the link, but it’s the weekend and she might not be taking calls/interviews.

She could under a doctor’s care someplace with padded walls and no sharp objects.

I pranked my friends on Friday that she dropped out of the 6th, and was starting a write-in for the 8th. I actually fooled a few people.

She has her take on it, but had spot checked 65 signatures on four separate sheets (2.5% sample), and half were not Dems or not in the district. If that spot check was remotely representative, then a challenge made sense.

As for her support outside the district and across America, she blatantly played the race card by targeting Chinese American donors with her poor little rich girl immigrant story. Very little of the money she raised was from the district.
She was the DCCC’s darling, and with half a million dollars (40 times her opponent) she couldn’t even make it to the starting gate. Parrish had enough signatures.
In the 7th (where she started “her amazing journey”), Mary Ellen has little money and got enough signatures, too.

This is what happens to people born on third base (or born on 2nd and steal 3rd).

Maybe she’ll take a lesson from this, become part of a community, and not window shop for a district. (Supposedly, she really lives by Rittenhouse SQ in Philly, and not either of the districts she tried running in.)

She finally updated her Facebook page late this morning:

    —— begin copy ——–
    Friends and loved ones,

After three days and evenings fighting in Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Court, I have withdrawn from the Congressional race in PA-6 for 2016. I’m truly sorry I couldn’t hold onto our dream. My heart is in pieces.

Through your efforts, we gathered around 2,500 signatures, well over the 1,000 signatures a Congressional candidate needs to appear on the ballot. Although some of our signatures were void due to errors that are common among candidate petitions, during the court proceedings, I learned of a much greater problem: one of our notaries failed to keep a notary log that is required by law. This oversight disqualified a significant portion of our signatures, placing us below the legal requirement. I take full responsibility for what happened.

We were ahead in the polls and had the support of Americans not only in PA-6 but also around Pennsylvania and America, raising over half a million dollars from citizens who scrimped and saved to realize our vision for our incredible country. I could never have imagined that our battle would be in a courtroom, rather than in the court of public opinion. I ask myself now: If I had known a year ago that this would happen, would I still have run? My answer is an unwavering “yes.” Victory is measured in the number of people that were touched and inspired — by that count, we have many more than 1,000.

This episode leaves me with no bitterness or resentment — only love. The judge presiding over the hearing said he had never before been so moved in an election case, as a parade of supporters bravely took the stand on our campaign’s behalf. When the court adjourned, I embraced with warmth those who sought to end our campaign. While disappointed, I wish my opponent the very best and will devote my time now to supporting other candidates and serving our community.

This campaign was a labor of love. I will run for public office again to serve our country and hope you will remain with me. Thank you so much for sharing this journey with me.

  14. does politicsPA even know Lindy dropped out?? Did her suitcase full of dreams end up on a baggage claim belt in O’Hare Airport?

  15. No DOWN ARROW for Seth Williams? He covered-up a crime committed at his house and made the taxpayers foot the bill for the damage caused to City property by a slasher (cough cough – pissed off chick Seth was banging?).

Now Serh has even MORE explaining to do!! Is he going to admit he has/had a(n) (un)professional relationship with the slasher?
