4/9 Morning Buzz

Harrisburg Capitol stepsSchwartz is running for Gov and everyone is running for her seat in Congress. Toomey takes center stage in DC, and two polls in races here in Pa. Good morning politicos, here’s the Buzz.

Bloomberg PAC Changes Tone, Airs Toomey-Favorable Ad (With Video): You catch more flies with honey, and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns PAC is trying a sweeter approach now that Sen. Pat Toomey is working to strike a bipartisan deal on background checks.

Liberal Group Slams Corbett in New Ad (With Video): A newly formed liberal group is hitting Gov. Tom Corbett on familiar lines, accusing him of cutting education spending while giving tax breaks to corporations. It’s a $32,000 ad buy in the Harrisburg market.

It’s Official: Schwartz for Gov: Allyson Schwartz is running for Governor. The Montgomery County Congresswoman said she plans to file the paperwork today.

Boyle, Saidel File to Run for Schwartz Seat: PA-13 has two newcomers who are vying for the seat. State Rep. Brendan Boyle and Jonathan Saidel have both filed their papers to set up exploratory committees in Rep. Allyson Schwartz’s district.

Reports: Toomey Playing Ball With Dems on Background Checks: Pat Toomey, who remains a strong conservative voice in the Senate, has been courted in recent weeks by Democrats who hope that his support for new gun control legislation will be a deciding factor in their ultimate goal for universal background checks.

Trib Poll: Wagner 40, Peduto 33: A poll commissioned by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review shows former Auditor General Jack Wagner ahead of City Councilman Bill Peduto among likely voters.

Papenfuse Poll: He’d Beat Thompson 1 on 1: Challenger Eric Papenfuse would defeat incumbent Harrisburg Mayor Linda Thompson in a head to head contest, according to a poll he released Monday. Unfortunately for him, that’s not the choice voters will make.
