5/20 Morning Buzz

Good morning politicos, and welcome to the buzz.

In good news for incumbents everywhere, Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate dropped again in April, from 7.8 to 7.5 percent. That’s a total 1.3 percent drop since April 2010, apparently the largest decrease since 1987.

Results continue to trickle in after Tuesday’s primary. In the Democratic contest for the Commonwealth Court nomination, endorsed candidate Kathryn Boockvar squeaked out of recount range yesterday. According to the PA Department of State, with 99.76% of precincts in, Boockvar leads by 0.505435% (a recount occurs automatically at or below 0.5%). It appears just five precincts remain Huntingdon County precincts remain (which Boockvar lost), and seventeen in Philly (which she won).

The primary for Philly District 2 is (not unpredictably) turning a bit nasty. Barbara Capozzi, who trails by 72 votes, sent an email to supporters passive-aggressively critiquing the un-cleanliness of State Rep. Kenyatta Johnson’s block, and Johnson’s spokesman responded in kind.

Finally, don’t forget to check PoliticsPA later for this week’s Ups and Downs.
