6/23 PoliticsPA Playbook

PA-state-flag6-14Scarnati unsure how the Senate will close the deficit, legislators appear far from deal on the budget, and Pennsylvania officials react to the U.S. Senate GOP’s healthcare bill.  Good morning politicos, here’s the Playbook!

Scarnati: Unsure How Senate Will Close Budget Gap: With eight days until the budget deadline, Senate Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati is not sure how legislators will close the $2 billion budget deficit.

State House Sound Bites: Lawmakers appear far from consensus on paying for budget: House and Senate leaders are preparing to work through the weekend as they try to finish budget negotiations before their June 30th deadline. However, they still have little to say about their negotiations. Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman said the House, Senate, and Governor are close to being on the same page on a relatively austere, $31.8 billion spending plan.

Morning Call: Pa. officials react to Senate GOP health care bill: Senate Republicans on Thursday released a draft of the health care overhaul bill they’ve been crafting in closed-door meetings. The legislation would dismantle much of Barack Obama’s health care law, proposing to cut Medicaid and erase tax boosts that helped Obama finance his expansion of coverage. Here’s what Pennsylvania officials had to say about the proposal.
