8/25 Ups & Downs

Casey has positive favorability ratings, Bartos has a mixed week, Fabrizio continues a full schedule, Stack continues to gain challengers and faces the House, and Philadelphia Republicans see the largest voter registration increase. See who made this week’s Ups & Downs!

Up-Arrow4-2

Bob Casey.  According to the latest NBC/Marist Poll Senator Bob Casey is the most popular statewide official up for election next year, with a +12 favorability score.  The score will be a boost to Casey who is going to be one of the most watched candidates going into next year’s Senate races.

Up-Arrow4-2Down Arrow Jeff Bartos.  Senate candidate Jeff Bartos had a pro-Bartos super PAC launched this week to help his bid for Senate.  He was the first Senate candidate in the state to go on television, a strong move for a candidate with little name recognition looking to build his campaign.  The move may have backfired as Republican county chairs sent a letter to Bartos withdrawing any support they may have given his campaign.

Down Arrow

State House Republicans.  With the budget stalemate ending its second month, and the the state’s money,  set to run dry on September 15th, the state House Republicans have been getting pressure from their Republican colleagues in the Senate to come back before their scheduled September 11th date, going so far as to say “this isn’t governing; this is an embarrassment.”

Down ArrowMike Stack.  Lieutenant Governor Mike Stack came under increased scrutiny this week during a House hearing on his expenses, including calls for the Lieutenant Governor’s office to be eliminated. Stack also learned this week a second challenger entered the race, and former U.S. Senate candidate Mayor John Fetterman is considering a challenge as well.

Up-Arrow4-2

Pete Peterson.  Philadelphia based PR executive Pete Peterson went public this week about his life-threatening experience off the coast of Cape May when he was rescued by a human chain of lifeguards and fire fighters.  By going public, Peterson is helping to educate others about the dangers of riptides hopefully helping to prevent more incidents like his own.

Up-Arrow4-2

Philadelphia Republicans.  The number of registered Republicans grew in Philadelphia 27,000 more than Berks county, which was the next closest.  While the growth makes sense with Philly being the population center of Pennsylvania, registering over 31,000 Republicans in what is considered the Democrats stronghold shows the party is growing in the city.

Up-Arrow4-2

Flo Fabrizio.  State Representative Flo Fabrizio announced in April he was battling pancreatic cancer, and has since maintained a full schedule of his duties as a Representative.  His hard work and dedication to fulfilling his duties is an inspiration, and we all wish him a full and speedy recovery.

  1. When the “Rs” finally feel like governing, watch for the furloughs to begin in October.

  2. Flo is a good rep for the Erie area but he is retiring after his current term. Several names have been floated but I hope whoever succeeds him can fill his spot honorably.
