9/10 Morning Buzz

Good morning politicos, here’s the Buzz. For the first time since May, no presidential campaigns or super PACs are on TV in PA – but local campaigns are taking their place.

And don’t miss Friday’s Ups & Downs.

Major Dem Super PAC Pulls Out of PA: Another strike for Pennsylvania’s swing state status. Priorities USA Action, the super PAC founded to boost the re-election effort of President Obama, will suspend its advertising here.

McNally Goes on TV in SD-15: A few days after his opponent, Republican John McNally is on television in the 15th district race for Senate. The 30 second spot emphasizes his local roots, and his willingness to push back against leaders from his own party.

In 6 Stop Tour, Smith Unveils Detailed Policy Platform: Senate candidate Tom Smith unveiled a detailed economic platform in a six-city tour Friday, laying out the plans he has if elected to office.

DCCC Ad Slams Rothfus Over Tenuous China Link (Watch Video): A new attack ad from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee highlights a 1993 business decision made by an employer of congressional hopeful Keith Rothfus.

9/7 Ups & Downs: The conventions are over and the sprint to election day has begun! See who rose and who fell this week as President Obama accepted his re-nomination.

Meehan Scores Big Union Endorsement: A good relationship with labor is the ticket to political longevity for Republicans in southeast PA, and Rep. Pat Meehan may have punched it Thursday. He picked up the backing of the Philadelphia Council of Building and Construction Trades, which represents 70,000 workers in the region.

Reader Poll: Which PA Politico Gave the Best Convention Speech?: There were speeches aplenty at both parties’ conventions, and some Pennsylvanians lent their voices to the RNC and DNC. But who did it best?

Nutter Hammers Romney on Education at DNC (Watch Video): Taking the stage in Charlotte Thursday evening, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter wasted little time laying into Mitt Romney. He talked about the Republican presidential hopeful’s ill-fated visit to a Philly school in May.

Legislative Election Updates

SD-15: A few days after his opponent, Republican John McNally is on television in the 15th district race for Senate. The 30 second spot emphasizes his local roots, and his willingness to push back against leaders from his own party.

HD-89: Dem challenger Susan Spicka is a long shot, but she’s running one of the best earned media campaigns in the state. Take this gem, in which she makes Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin) look like a complete schmuck on TV news over his per diem expenses (he commutes to the Capitol, but has collected over $34,000 since taking office). The Public Opinion picked it up, too.
