12/13 Morning Buzz

From the cover of the July 2009 edition of the conservative National Review

Gov. Corbett says no to an Obamacare health insurance exchange, and two prospective Dem rivals slam him on it. Good morning politicos, here’s the Buzz.

What Were the Best and Worst Ads of the 2012 Election? What were the TV ads that made the difference? Which ones fell flat? How about mailers, radio spots, and other campaign tools? Now that the election is over, PoliticsPA wants to know: which campaigns stood out?

Corbett Rejects Obamacare Health Insurance Exchange: Pennsylvania will not set up its own state-based health insurance exchange under the new health care law, Gov. Tom Corbett announced Wednesday.

Republicans Celebrate Corbett Obamacare Decision: While Democrats line up to criticize Gov. Tom Corbett’s decision to opt out of the Obamacare health insurance exchange, Republicans widely praised the move on Tuesday.

Schwartz Slams Corbett Obamacare Decision: Round one? Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, who is exploring a 2014 bid for Governor, harshly criticized Tom Corbett’s decision not to establish a state-based health insurance exchange.

Governing Magazine Ranks Corbett “Potentially Vulnerable”: Pennsylvania’s habit of alternating party control every 8 years stands in the Governor’s favor, but other factors like polling count against him.

BuzzFeed Names Sims One of “The 15 Hottest Politicians From Around the World”: He ranks among Russian President Vladmir Putin, Thailand Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and more, and he’s not even in office yet.

Senate Honors Specter: The U.S. Senate this week honored the late Senator Arlen Specter, who passed away in October.

Editor’s Note: Remember our Legislative Election Updates from the campaign? We’re going to reprise them a bit for the forthcoming local elections around Pa. in 2013.

Harrisburg Mayor: We’ll break it in with Dan Miller, the Controller of the City of Harrisburg who is challenging Mayor Linda Thompson in the primary. The PA Conference of Teamsters & Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen endorsed him, saying. “What Harrisburg needs is a person that has the knowledge, experience and fortitude to raise Harrisburg from the ashes and make it once again the proud city that houses the State Capitol and that person is Dan Miller.”
