Publisher to run for PA House


JOHNSTOWN, PA - Chris Voccio, publisher of The Pennsylvania Republican and former publisher of The Tribune-Democrat of Johnstown and Johnstown Magazine, announced today that he is launching a campaign for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives 72nd district seat currently held by Rep. Tom Yewcic.

Voccio, 40, of Upper Yoder Township, announced he is preparing a campaign now and will begin the petition process for ballot access on January 22nd. Yewcic announced in November he will retire at the end of the current term.

Voccio noted that both of Johnstown's House seats will be vacated by their incumbents this year, saying, "both of these elections will have regional importance extending far beyond their respective district boundaries."

He emphasized the importance of not sending career politicians to Harrisburg, saying, "We cannot afford to be sentenced to twenty or thirty years of continued stagnation while good-natured politicians collect their salaries and wait for their taxpayer-funded pensions to kick in."

Touching on two hot-button issues, he said, "We can't send the Governor more allies who will, even if unwittingly, help him in his anti-gun efforts and aid his hostility to to the pro-life position."

He will continue to serve at publisher of The Pennsylvania Republican.
