A new ABC27 poll shows Harrisburg Mayor Linda Thompson is in trouble and either of her top two opponents could replace her.
Thompson took 13% to 30% each for city controller Dan Miller and bookstore owner Eric Papenfuse, 1% for former library assistant Lewis Butts while 23% remain undecided in the Democratic primary.
ABC27 commissioned the poll from Susquehanna Polling and Research, who surveyed 300 Harrisburg Democrats from May 9-10 via live telephone interviews. The margin of error is plus or minus 5.6%. It is the first independent poll released in the race.
Of the undecided, 13% said they’re leaning towards Papenfuse, 10% would go to Thompson, Miller would get an additional 6%, and 1% to Butts.
Perhaps even more troubling for Mayor Thompson is her approval rating. Only 21% of respondents had a favorable opinion of the mayor while 67% said they had an unfavorable opinion of Thompson. Only 10% said they had “a lot” of confidence in Thompson, 27% said they had “a little” confidence while an overwhelming 60% said they had “no confidence” at all.
The campaign has been heating as Papenfuse released a negative television ad against Miller last week. The ad sought to link him to Thompson.

A real true poll recently showed the following:
Thompson 32%
Miller 27%
Papenfuse 19%
Butts 1%
Undecided 17%
Maybe the people of Perry County will accept her when the citizens of Harrisburg run her out of town
Susquehanna polling is just plain bad.
In 2009, they had Steve Reed beating Thompson by 15 points for the same tv station.
