Numerous Pennsylvania school districts were hit by “swatting” calls on Wednesday morning, saying there was an active shooter on their campus, which turned out to be a hoax.

The calls sent police, emergency crews and first responders to schools across the Commonwealth just two days after six people, including three 9-year-olds, were killed in a mass shooting at a Christian school in Nashville.

Swatting is defined as “the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.”

There are also reports of similar calls going to schools in Provo, Salt Lake City and Ogden in Utah.

We are investigating a series of phone calls made to 9-1-1 centers involving threats of an active shooter situation or bomb threat at PA schools.⁰⁰At this time, all claims in these calls have been determined to be false.⁰⁰The investigation is ongoing.
