Allegheny GOP Chair Endorses Stephens for AG

Todd-StephensState Rep. and Attorney General candidate Todd Stephens has won the support of the Allegheny County GOP Chair Jim Roddey.

“As impressive as Todd’s record is as a State Representative, his prosecutorial experience is what truly sets him apart,” said Roddey, the chairman of the Allegheny County Republican Committee and a member of the Republican State Committee.

“One of the things we have a responsibility to do is nominate candidates who can win the general election and implement our values,” Roddey continued. “We need an experienced conservative leader as our nominee for Attorney General. That is why I am supporting Todd Stephens.”

“Jim Roddey is a highly respected Republican leader in southwestern Pennsylvania and I am honored by his endorsement,” Stephens responded. “I know that Jim takes his responsibility to vet candidates for endorsement very seriously and appreciate his assessment that experience counts in the Attorney General’s race and my experience as a prosecutor is the right fit for Pennsylvania Republicans.”

Stephens is running against State Sen. John Rafferty in next year’s GOP primary for Attorney General.

  1. “Fresh face”? His patron Bil Donnelly just got elected Montgomery County Chairman. There is no more old guard than Donnelly, who lost his last election having grown stale in his County job. Donnelly is a good buddy of Bob Kerns, the former Chairman who is now a convicted sex offender for life. And a good buddy of former County Chairman, many years ago, of Frank Bartle.

  2. Yo! Stephens…watch your back! Roddey has been water boy for the Bazzano-Zappala-Porter crime family since he was the Allegheny County Exec

  3. PhillyPolitico, I don’t think anyone has anything against him. I don’t know him but those who do seem to like him. I think this comes down to a generational shift and experience. Rafferty is a remnant of the old MontCo GOP machine. A machine that’s on its back without any conceivable way to make a comeback, not in the short to medium term anyway. Rafferty tried to position himself as the “conservative” candidate but people see through the maneuvering given his votes in the senate and that makes him seem a bit disingenuous. Stephens is a fresh face with very real experience as a prosecutor, something Rafferty lacks (on both counts). It seems that most people like Raffery, they just think he’s better in senate instead of running for a job he’s not qualified to do.

  4. As a Democrat, I can’t say I know much about GOP primary politics. But what do people have against Rafferty?
