It looks like former competitors for the PA-12 nomination are prepared to kiss and make up next week, when Mark Critz and Jason Altmire meet Monday May 7 in Pittsburgh for a press conference where Altmire will formally announce his support for his former competitor.
The conference will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Allegheny County Courthouse Courtyard along Grant Street.
Also in attendance will be Congressman Mike Doyle, representing the 14th district, and Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald among other Democratic lawmakers.
Critz’s campaign spokesperson Mike Mikus said that Altmire’s decision to appear with Critz shows a strong willingness for the two representative to overcome past differences for the good of the party.
Mikus also said that appearing in Pittsburgh, near Almire’s home turf, is an important step.
“I think it’s significant and sends a message that the Democratic Party is unified,” he said. “Almire has been fantastic in stepping forward and showing a lot grace.”
Mikus added that the meeting is also politically significant. The Critz campaign faces a tough battle against Republican nominee Keith Rothfus, who not only has more cash on hand, but also has high name recognition from having run against Altmire in 2010, losing by less than 5,000 votes.
“Altmire did very well in Allegheny, Beaver and Lawrence counties,” Mikus said. “And this will help unify the party and allow us to move forward toward the general election as one.”

You cannot trust your future to extremist republicans! They care more about there power than providing a viable future for your family.
These elections are all fixed, period. If Pelosi wants Critz, which she in fact does, then its Critz, end of story. Plus the Republican Party Chairman, Mr. Gleason, underwrites all of the defense contractors in Johnstown through his corporate insurance firm (and was Murtha’s good friend), so it is suffice to say he and Critz are friends too. It doesnt matter who runs, how much money they have, as long as Gleason is running the show, Critz, as pathetic as he is, will always be a so-called Congressman. Doesnt it just make you want to vote? YUCK!
GO Congressman Critz!!! Keith Rothfus will lose again. They already rejected Rothfus and they will do it again.
This just shows how weak and pathetic Altmire is. This was his race to lose and he did. After everything Critz did shame on you Jason. And people need to see how horrible of a guy critz is and his lack of concern for a rape victim.
