And the Award for First State Rep or Senate Candidate on TV Goes to…

Brian Rich, the energy company executive challenging Sen. Dave Argall (R-Schuylkill) in the GOP primary, is airing a 30-second bio spot.

PoliticsPA is seeking the details of the buy, but one reader said he saw it air on WNEP, a broadcast network, during the 5pm news. Schuylkill County is in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre media market.

Rich’s family owns several companies of which he is president: Jack Rich Inc., Keller Oil and Lehigh Fuels. It’s fair to assume he’s lending some financial support to his campaign.

His media consultant is Ryan Shafik of Rockwood Strategies, who’s no stranger to taking on incumbent Pa. Senators. He advised John Eichelberger and Mike Folmer in their 2006 primary wins over Bob Jubelirer and Chip Brightbill, members of the Senate leadership.

Argall won his seat in 2009, in a special election after the passing of Sen. James Rhoades. In 2010, Argall unsuccessfully challenged Rep. Tim Holden.
