Read the Associated Press story here:

HARRISBURG – Donations flooded in last year for the two candidates running for a seat on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, with nearly $4.7 million in cash and in-kind contributions collected by Democrat Jack Panella and Republican Joan Orie Melvin.

It was but the latest example of the prominent role money plays in the political world of Pennsylvania, one of the few states that still places no limits on how much a particular donor or political action committee may contribute.

Some lawmakers, however, are proposing changes, including caps on contributions, more frequent public reporting and clearer disclosure of the sources of all the cash.
