Bucks County Commissioner bashes Fitzpatrick in oped

We have all just endured a Republican primary where our former county commissioner, Mike Fitzpatrick, cozied up to the most radical fringes of the Republican Party by running away from two decades of political positions in a fit of opportunism that would make even the most hardened campaign-hands blush.

The man who cosponsored “Cap and Trade” when he was in Congress now believes that global warming is “unproven.” The man who literally kneeled before a sign to pledge his support for the right of workers to organize without fear of intimidation now opposes it because it violates “our system of government.” The man who outspent every opponent he ever ran against now suddenly supports campaign spending limits.

But I think the most disingenuous aspect of Fitzpatrick’s newfound persona is his outlandish and audacious claims of “fiscal responsibility.” I know Fitzpatrick is fond of saying, “Don’t tell me what you are going to do. Tell me what you’ve done.” So let’s remember what Fitzpatrick had “done” in his 10 years as county commissioner.

During Fitzpatrick’s tenure, property taxes increased seven times. So when Mike is running around the county talking about taxes, remember that property taxes went up 60 percent under his watch. Is that fiscally responsible?
