“Throw the bums out.”
That’s been the cry from many Pennsylvanians ever since the 2005 legislative pay grab. And it got louder recently with the Legislature’s failure to pass a budget for months this year.
But we will never throw them all out at the same time. Why? Because voters love their own legislators. They believe it’s your legislators who should be tossed out, not theirs.
Nor should there be a mass clearing. Legislative failures cannot be blamed entirely on rank-and-file senators and representatives. They, unfortunately, have to sit back and wait while their leaders argue behind closed doors.
The solution is to throw the leaders out. If their constituents won’t do the job in the 2010 elections, then it’s up to the rank and file to toss them out of leadership positions. The sooner the better, such as this January.
