WILKES-BARRE – Tea Party members and area residents shouldered flags, waved signs and marched in front of the Wilkes-Barre office of U.S. Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski on Tuesday for the first of two pickets against the health care bill.
“I just think it’s an issue that’s important and I don’t think our representatives are listening to us anymore,” said Sherry Carlo of Larksville.
The NEPA Tea Party LLC organized the picket, which was attended by more than two dozen people in the early evening in front of the Stegmaier Building on Wilkes-Barre Boulevard.
“Together we will send a message to our elected officials that we are energized, watching, and will not stand by as big-government politicians attempt to take away our freedom,” the group posted on its Facebook page to organize the pickets.
The second picket will be today from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in front of the Clarks Summit office of U.S. Rep. Chris Carney, D-Dimock Township, 233 Northern Blvd.
“There’s something in this package for everyone not to like, if you think about it,” Dave Baloga, of Lake Township, said. “And why do we have to hurry up and ram it through? It just doesn’t make sense.”
Baloga carried a sign protesting abortion, and said that as a Catholic he doesn’t want the health care bill to cover abortions. Other signs included “HC is free cheese in a mousetrap,” “Stomp Obama’s socialist agenda” and “Paul, do not abandon us for Nancy Pelosi.”
“As part of our democratic process, people have the right to voice their opinions and I encourage them to do so. There is much misinformation floating around regarding health care reform legislation, and I encourage everyone to learn the facts of what is really included in it,” Kanjorski, D-Nanticoke, said in response to the picket.

THEY WANT TO TURN ALL FUTURE GENERATIONS INTO SLAVES OF THE INSURANCE EXECTUTIVES! AND THEN THEY BECOME SLAVES TO THE GOVERNMENT. SOMETHING VERY SICKENING IS GOING ON AND WE BETTER VOTE OUT ALL OF THOSE THAT HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS HEALTH CARE PROGRAM. THE USA RANKS 48TH IN LONGEVITY!!!
