CQ: NRCC Moves To Bolster Gerlach

Acknowledging the tough re-election Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-Pa.) will have on his hands this fall, the National Republican Congressional Committee has enrolled him in its Patriot program, which seeks to boost the party’s most vulnerable incumbents in 2010.

Even in a cycle that is favorable to Republicans, Gerlach’s southeast Pennsylvania seat is expected to be competitive. Gerlach won his previous four House races, but never by much. Last cycle, his unheralded opponent held him to just a 4-point win. Meanwhile President Barack Obama won the district by 17 points in the 2008 presidential election.
