Ex-Tpk. chief charged with obstructing Fumo probe

Mitchell Rubin, former chairman of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, was charged today with obstructing the grand jury investigation of ex-State former State Sen. Vincent J. Fumo.

Rubin, 57, of Philadelphia is accused of withholding information relating to a Senate contract that Fumo arranged to award to a company Rubin co-owned, according to Acting United States Attorney Virginia Gibson.

Rubin is charged in an Information, an indication that he plans to plead guilty.

Patricia Hartman, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, said she could not comment on a possible plea.
