Gerlach visits Valley, talks infrastructure

Republican gubernatorial candidate Jim Gerlach made his pitch Tuesday for bolstering the state’s transportation infrastructure and creating jobs in the shadow of the towering silos of one of the Lehigh Valley’s five cement manufacturing plants.

Gerlach, the four-term congressman from the 6th District in suburban Philadelphia, toured the Essroc cement plant in Lower Nazareth Township, which produces about 1.2 million tons of cement each year for construction around the country.

”By investing in infrastructure, you’re investing in direct jobs that are part of the construction itself, as well as ancillary jobs including the production of materials that go into the construction products,” Gerlach told a group of 25 local industry leaders.
