HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Republican party put out a news release today hammering U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, and it clearly shows it hasn’t forgotten or forgiven his decision last year to leave the GOP and convert to the Democrats.
State GOP Chairman Rob Gleason urged Mr. Specter to cancel his March 21 fund-raiser in Atlanta with media mogul Ted Turner, who, Mr. Gleason charged, is famous for bashing both Christians and the nation of Israel.
“Turner has mocked and ridiculed Christians for many years,” Mr. Gleason said in a news release. Such as a 1990 claim that “Christianity is a religion for losers,” Mr. Gleason said.

Arlen Specter has once again proved his dedication to principles self promotion. Specter will stop at nothing in his quest to add another 6 to his 24 years as a Washington insider. Contrast this attitude with Congressman Toomey who shows a remarkable dedication to the small government principles that he articulates. When he took a pledge to only remain in Congress 3 terms, he stuck by his principles, and did not seek reelection in 2004. This year’s election is a golden opportunity to defeat a self-serving unprincipled politician and replace him with a proven leader who knows what he believes, and serves the people instead of his own campaign fund.
It makes sense for Specter to be desperate for money, in recent polls Toomey is up by at least 2 points overall. Specter realizes that his switch from Republican to Democrat was a mistake seeing that a lot of the Democratic initiatives are failing. I think most of us can agree on term limits for Congress, which Pat Toomey supports. That is why he did not run for another representative term. What we need right now is someone who is fiscally responsible considering the current economic crisis and budget deficit.
Toomey has been a consistent advocate of reducing and eliminating taxes. While in Congress he voted to reduce the capital gains tax, to eliminate the estate tax, to cut small business taxes, to eliminate the “marriage penalty”, and to expand and extend multiple tax credits to individuals and businesses.
