In case you missed it: Thursday’s non ‘Bonusgate’-news

PoliticsPA was a little consumed with Attorney General Tom Corbett’s “Bonusgate” indictment all day Thursday, but that doesn’t mean politics across the rest of the Keystone State took a hiatus. Here are some of the stories we missed while riffling through a 188-page presentment:

Howard Cohen officially declared his candidacyin the 6th District. The Republican has an extensive background in the private, public and academic sectors, but he enters a field that already includes state Rep. Curt Schroder, businessman Steve Welch, and Chester County Recorder of Deeds Ryan Costello.

Next door to Cohen’s 6th District, Democrat Bryan Lentz declared his candidacy in the 7th District. The state lawmaker is considered the front-runner for the Democratic nomination, but includes a field with two already announced candidates — political consultant Teresa Touey and environmental lawyer Gail Conner.

Speaking of the 7th District, outgoing incumbent Joe Sestak officially received an endorsement in his race against Arlen Specter from the longtime senator’s opponent in 1992, Lynn Yeakel. Sestak’s campaign had already announced the endorsement last week.

U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire took flak from Democrats, who protested outside his office about his “no” vote on the health care bill. Members of Organizing for America also were encouraged Thursday to talk to Republican U.S. Reps. Charlie Dent and Jim Gerlach about their “no” votes on the issue. Each congressman represents a district that favored President Barack Obama last year.
