Issa not letting go of Sestak job affair

U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa (D-Calif.), the leading Republican inquisitor into the now-infamous job the White House dangled in front of Democratic Senate candidate Joe Sestak last year, isn’t letting go of the controversy.

The congressman is calling on the U.S. Office of Special Counsel to investigate White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel to see if he did anything illegal in orchestrating the offer to Sestak, which was delivered over the phone to him by former President Bill Clinton, reports Pennsylvania Avenue.

Issa’s letter, according to the Morning Call blog:

“Rahm Emanuel was leveraging the power and access of his official position to advance the political interests of the Democratic Party by affecting the result of the Pennsylvania Democratic Primary. Averting divisive primary campaigns and protecting a Democratic seat in the U.S. House of Representatives are purely political concerns and as such, federal officials are prohibited from using their official authority or influence to address them…this is precisely the sort of behavior forbidden by the Hatch Act.”

The California congressman will be a featured speaker at this weekend’s state GOP meeting in Hershey.
