Judge denies mistrial bid for ‘Bonusgate’

Read the AP story here:

Three of the Pennsylvania legislative corruption trial defendants lost their request Monday for a mistrial after they argued the judge should not have replaced a sick juror once deliberations began.

Judge Richard Lewis turned down the motion and also rejected the same defendants’ bid to have additional instructions read to the jury, currently in its seventh day of deliberations following a six-week trial.

In an intriguing development Monday afternoon, jurors notified Lewis that they planned to remain on the job until 8 p.m. — three hours later than they have been going.
