Lentz: I Will Debate Meehan Any Place, Any Time, Anywhere

State Representative Bryan Lentz, Democratic nominee for Congress in the 7th District, today challenged his opponent, attorney Pat Meehan, to honor his word and schedule a “vigorous series of debates”.

Meehan, a former aide to Rick Santorum and Arlen Specter as well as a George W. Bush political appointee, has repeatedly ducked, canceled or otherwise hidden from debates with Lentz. Meehan tentatively agreed to debate the health reform bill on conservative talk radio with Lentz and then backed out at the last minute and refused to reschedule. He skipped a candidates’ forum on foreign policy that was sponsored by a non-partisan group, and at the only candidate forum he has bothered to attend, Meehan took two questions and stayed for less than thirty minutes before leaving for an undisclosed event.

In an apparent change of position, this week Meehan told his supporters in an email that he looks forward to setting up “a vigorous series of debates” with Lentz.

“I will debate Pat Meehan any time, any place, anywhere,” said Lentz. “The people want a real debate and they want a representative who is willing to roll up their sleeves and work for them. If we learned anything from the defeat of Pat Meehan’s mentor in the senate primary, it’s that the people don’t want another career politician who feels entitled to a coronation.”

“To me, a ‘vigorous series of debates’ would be 8 to 10 debates with at least 1 or 2 each held in Montgomery and Chester Counties,” said Lentz. “I am proud of my record as a tough in-court prosecutor and former Airborne Ranger in the Army, and I firmly believe we should give the voters every opportunity to compare our backgrounds and our positions on issues.”

A former Airborne Ranger, criminal prosecutor and Iraq War veteran, Bryan Lentz currently serves in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from Delaware County. He was awarded both the Bronze Star for Service and the War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal for his military service. He lives in Swarthmore with his wife Jennifer and their son Thomas.

  1. “(Meehan) has repeatedly ducked, canceled or otherwise hidden from debates with Lentz.”

Was this post written by the Lentz campaign team?

This sounds like a classic tactic of those desperate for attention. Lentz tries to frame the argument (“I’ll debate you anywhere, anytime”) and then tries to come down hard when Meehan won’t buy into his stupid goading.

Meehan will win, that much is a fact. Communists have a better chance of winning in November than Democrats, thanks to Barry and his Chicago regime.
