It’s only March, but it feels like late October in Delaware County’s 7th Congressional District race.
Republican Pat Meehan, a former U.S. attorney, and Democratic state Rep. Bryan Lentz, an Iraq war veteran, are already trading blows in one of the nation’s closely watched congressional contests.
Tensions have escalated in recent days, fueled by a couple of clumsy errors committed by both candidates’ supporters.
Last week, Lentz’s campaign accused Meehan of “pervasive fraud and systemic abuse of the public trust” after questionable signatures were discovered on his nominating petitions.
One of the signatures belonged to Terry Bradley, who says a Meehan supporter forged her name. She happens to be married to Ed Bradley, one of Lentz’s closest political confidants.
