Republican congressional candidate Pat Meehan raised more than $580,000 in the fourth fiscal quarter, a sum that brings the total amount he’s raised to more than $790,000.
The former U.S. attorney now has about $695,000 on hand.
“These fundraising figures are a reflection of local residents’ dissatisfaction with the direction Congress is taking our country and growing support for my efforts to restore integrity and accountability to Washington,” Meehan said in a statement. “Pennsylvania residents are eager for an elected official who will ensure their voices are heard on critical issues like taxes, jobs, health care, and restoring fiscal responsibility to the federal government.”
Meehan is running in the 7th Congressional District, a seat being vacated by Senate candidate Joe Sestak. State Rep. Bryan Lentz is considered the Democratic front-runner for the nomination.
Meehan’s fourth quarter fundraising was given a significant boost in early December when New Jersey Governor Elect Chris Christie participated in two fundraisers for his former U.S. attorney colleague. The events were estimated at the time to have raised more than $250,000.
Correction: This story has been updated to reflect more accurate figures released in campaign’s official press release. An earlier version, which quoted a Republican source close to the campaign, reported fundraising figures slightly below the actual amounts.
