Morning Buzz: 6/10 Edition

Good Thursday Morning and Welcome to the Morning Buzz…

Philly is still reeling from the crushing Stanley Cup Final defeat.

PoliticsPA reports…

Dems: “Just Don’t Get It” – That’s what Pat Toomey said while simultaneously defending his Wall Street past.

Tom Corbett’s Advice – Layoff state workers to balance the state budget and in the same interview he said the Twitter subeoneas were like a “suicide squeeze” in baseball, they just didn’t work out. He said he did it to help with the sentencing of Bonusgate defendant Brett Cott.

Jobgate – Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, wants a special counsel appointed to investigate Jobgate

Rendell, CNBC and natural gas – Gov. Rendell appeared on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” yesterday to talk about the natural gas explosion in NE PA and the moratorium by the DEP on natural gas extracts. The video is here.

Daylin is at it again – This time, State. Sen. Daylin Leach says citizens are being unfair to the legislature and that the grand jury report should not have as much credibility as it has received.

Making Headlines…

(h/t Early Returns) The Grey Lady says Pa’s Gov race leans right: The New York Times, declares Tom Corbett the early favorite to beat Democrat Dan Onorato. Conventional wisdom at this point across the state agrees.

Watch your internet footprint – It might get larger if Gov. Rendell has his way, he is threatening to post the names of tax delinquents online if they do not take advantage of the tax amnesty program.

Keep your hands off my money – Gov. Rendell reiterated on Tuesday that if the legislature tries to cut education funding, it will be a “long, hot summer” in Harrisburg for the general assembly.

Meritocracy – Fmr. Govs. Tom Ridge, Mark Schweiker, Richard Thornburgh and current Gov. Ed Rendell all called for merit selection rather than retainment elections of judges Wednesday at the capitol in Harrisburg.

Is PA next? – On Tuesday, California voted in a ballot question to open up their primaries, not just can voters now choose to vote for whoever they want in a primary, but party affiliation does not matter in the sense that the top 2 vote getters are on the general election ballot. Conceivably, this means 2 Republicans or 2 Democrats could go at it in a general election. Could we ever see this in PA?

Photo of the Day…

We all know it gets hot in DC in the summer, especially with all the hot air spewed from the Capitol and the White House, so it is no surprise that VP Joe Biden and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel needed to cool off a little bit and have a super soaker fight.

Pennsylvania Weather – Look for a nice day across the state with highs in the 80s.
