Why would a supposedly progressive, Democratic Senate Candidate villify the incumbent Democratic President? Why would such a candidate knowingly provide fodder for right-wing extremists and Fox News pundits? It is contrary to logic. Unless, of course, the Democratic candidate in question were under scrutiny by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and was suspected of taking bribes from labor union racketeers like UFCW Local 1776 President Wendell Young IV. Unless the Democratic candidate was making a frantic, ill-considered attempt to ward off a federal inquiry. Unless the Democratic candidate desperately hoped that he could strike a deal wherein he abandons his Senate bid and the White House intercedes with the Justice Department to bring the inquiry to a close.

Then it would make some sense.
