Democratic congressional candidate John Callahan has $825,000 on hand after raising $320,000 in the year’s first fundraising quarter, his campaign reported, another strong effort for the man Democrats consider one of their best chances to defeat a GOP incumbent this year.
The Bethlehem mayor, who likely will face incumbent Republican Charlie Dent in the fall, said he has raised more than $1 million since he declared eight months ago.
Callahan might be one of the few congressional challengers nationwide to have more money than his incumbent opponent. Although Dent has not released his fundraising totals for the year’s first three months, he had $18,000 less on hand to start the year.
