Mark Critz on Wednesday asked the Office on Congressional Ethics to release transcripts of interviews it conducted with him during an investigation into John Murtha’s earmarking practices, an attempt by the late congressman’s potential successor to quell growing questions about his background.
The Democratic nominee in the 12th District faced questions from his former inter-party opponent, Barbara Hafer, over his role in the ethics investigation, which eventually exonerated the late congressman. Hafer wanted to know what Critz, Murtha’s former district, told the investigators when they interviewed him.
Although Hafer exited the race Wednesday, Critz issued a press release hours later saying he had requested the ethics office release “any and all transcripts and meeting notes in the Office’s possession as they relate to Critz’s work in the late Congressman John Murtha’s office.”
“As a firm believer in the principle that an open government is an honest government, I am committed to seeking transparency and accountability in the way Congress conducts its business,” Critz said in a statement. “It is in this spirit that I’ve formally requested the Office on Congressional Ethics to release these documents for the public to review.”
Roll Call reported Wednesday morning that Critz told defense contractors during a 2005 meeting that Murtha supported an earmarking project they proposed, a project that eventually led to criminal convictions of three men last year.

What’s with the GOP nominee, Tim Burns????
Tim Burns doesn’t vote consistently. If he can’t show up in crucial elections for our Republican candidates, he shouldn’t expect Republicans to show up for him. According to official records, Tim Burns didn’t vote in the 2000 Presidential election (Bush v. Gore), the 2002 General election (Rendell v. Fisher), or the 2004 Republican primary (Specter v. Toomey).
Tim Burns isn’t 100% committed to protecting life. In an interview with a conservative radio show, Burns said he wasn’t sure if he’d support a Constitutional Amendment that clearly says life begins at conception. Tim Burns hasn’t ever been there for our Republican candidates. The multi-millionaire has opened up his pocketbook for just one Republican candidate over the years when he gave to Rick Santorum in 2006. Where was he for the countless other Republican candidates we’ve all been working our tails off for so many years now?
