PoliticsPA: Dahlkemper up 4 on Kelly, poll reports

A poll commissioned by the Susan B. Anthony List, an anti-abortion advocacy group, shows Democratic incumbent Kathy Dahlkemper leading GOP challenger Mike Kelly by 4 points, 46 percent to 42 percent, an indication the race, as expected, is set to be close.

The poll’s results were published by the Washington Post blog The Fix.

Dahlkemper faces Kelly in the moderate 3rd Congressional District in the state’s northwest corner. The Democrat won the seat from former GOP U.S. Rep. Phil English in 2008 by only a few percentage points.

The poll might be good news for Dahlkemper after an internal survey in late July from Kelly, a Butler County car dealer, showed him up 11 points. The battle between the two candidates is expected to be among the state’s most competitive.

The Susan B. Anthony poll also showed that voters in the 3rd District favored a Republican over a Democrat by 2 points in a generic ballot.
