Chris Doherty raised about $440,000 for his gubernatorial campaign through the end of last year while simultaneously drawing nearly $675,000 in contributions into a separate account for his mayoral re-election effort, his campaign said Friday evening.
Combined, he raised about $1.1 million.
“I am very pleased at the support we received last year,” Doherty said in a statement. “As the only candidate in the governor’s race who had to run in both a primary and a general election in 2009, we faced some unique challenges. … I know we still have a lot of work to do, and with our focus entirely on the governor’s race, I’m looking forward to a great 2010.”
It was not immediately clear how much of the money raised for his re-election is left for the gubernatorial campaign. The campaign did not say how much money Doherty is on hand.
News of Doherty’s finances comes hours after Philadelphia businessman Tom Knox officially ended his campaign and endorsed Democratic frontrunner Dan Onorato. The Allegheny County Executive is the perceived leader for the party’s nomination in large part because he raised $8 million through 2009.
Doherty did raise more than than Democratic rival Joe Hoeffel, who said earlier this month he attracted $400,000 in contributions. Auditor General Jack Wagner has not released how much he raised.

When I ran for state representative in 2008 in the 115th district, I had no contributions to work with. I did everything door-to-door and garnered 19& of the vote.
