PoliticsPA: Former gov candidate Knox backs Specter

Remember Tom Knox?

The former Democratic gubernatorial candidate, who suddenly ended his campaign in late January, resurfaced Wednesday night to endorse U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter in his primary battle against challenger Joe Sestak. An message sent to recipients of his campaign e-mail list, said to include as many as 30,000 addresses, asked voters to support Specter because he is the strongest foe against Republican U.S. Senate candidate Pat Toomey.

“I ask you to join President Obama , Governor Rendell, Senator Bob Casey, and Pennsylvania’s Democratic Party in voting for Senator Specter May 18,” Knox said in an e-mail. “He needs our support. And we need to return a man of his moderation, experience and wisdom to the Senate.”

The end of the e-mail included a disclaimer “Paid for by the Knox campaign.”

Knox, who also ran for mayor of Philadelphia in 2007, hasn’t been seen or heard from since exiting the race for governor, reportedly because his wife wanted the wealth multi-millionaire to stop spending money on politics. At the time, he said he endorsed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato, the frontrunner for the nomination.

  1. OH I’m sorry my surprise-o-meter is broken. A Rich white guy is supporting a powerful white guy!? NEVER!

Arlen Specter only has 30k people on his email list? That’s pretty weak. I wonder how many unsubscribes he had at the switch.
