Barbara Hafer on Tuesday received the endorsement of Allegheny County Controller Mark Flaherty as she vies for the Democratic nomination in the 12th Congressional District.
“I know Barbara Hafer, and more importantly the voters of our district know her,” Flaherty said in a statement. “She has been through the process already and she has been vetted and approved by the people she seeks to represent.”
Only a tiny slice of Allegheny County sits in the 12th District – it will have one of 100 delegates at Saturday’s recommendation meeting in Delmont. The straw poll vote comes two days before the party’s Executive Committee officially decides which Democrat will represent it on the May 18 special election ballot.
Hafer is competing against Murtha’s former district director, Mark Critz, and Cambria County Controller Ed Cernic Jr. for the special election nomination.
