Pat Meehan’s campaign shot back Thursday at remarks made by state Rep. Bryan Lentz earlier in the week, when the lawmaker told PoliticsPA he had a stronger record than the former U.S. attorney.

Meehan is “more than happy to compare records, said Campaign Manager Bryan Kendro, “including his record of fighting corruption in government, battling crime and drugs in our neighborhoods, and tackling government waste and fraud before voters.”

“In comparison, Bryan Lentz has a proven record of voting for tax increases and increasing state spending by $1 billion,” he said. “Lentz is part of the problem in Harrisburg and he will be part of the problem in Congress.”

Meehan’s campaign and other Republicans have made an effort this week to highlight contributions Lentz’s campaign received from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) while emphasizing reports identifying the ex-U.S. attorney as one of the GOP’s best candidates in 2010.

The 7th Congressional District battle between Meehan and Lentz, who is the heavy favorite in the Democratic primary, would likely be one of the most competitive in the country.

Lentz’s campaign offered this response to the Meehan campaign:

“Pat Meehan has been a political insider for over 30 years – his first campaign was in 1979,” said Vincent Rongione, campaign manager. “In contrast, Bryan Lentz was serving our country in Iraq 6 years ago, having volunteered to return to service after 9/11,” said Lentz campaign manager Vincent Rongione. “I think people are already tired of Meehan’s negative attacks. They understand the difference between a genuine public servant and a typical career politician.”
