Good Thursday morning Pennsylvania, this is today’s buzz.

An early, early poll shows Sestak up 7 against Toomey: http://politicalwire.com/archives/2010/06/02/sestak_takes_early_lead.html

There’s been no shortage of analysis of President Obama’s visit to Pittsburgh yesterday, starting with the President’s, uh, welcoming committee.  Lame-duck Sen. Arlen Specter flew to Pittsburgh to join the President, but only Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl was there to greet Obama.

PoliticsPA’s Sean Coit discussed Obama’s trip (and notable absences) on Fox29 in Philadelphia:

Post-Gazette: “Mr. Obama discussed the economy at Carnegie Mellon University for the second time in two years, citing signs of progress from the “dramatic and unpopular steps,” his administration initiated to combat the world’s economic crisis and delivering a pre-election rebuttal to GOP criticism of those policies.”

PGH Trib: “With a high-tech research university in the middle of a coal-rich region as his backdrop, President Obama said Wednesday the country must “aggressively accelerate” its transition from fossil fuels to clean energy.”

Politico:President Barack Obama — seizing on the smash-mouth spirit of the Steelers — delivered his first major midterm hit on the GOP on Wednesday during a quick trip to Western Pennsylvania.”

Pennsylvania and national media outlets have published story after story analyzing the apparent job offer from the administration to get Joe Sestak out of the Democratic Senate primary, and it appears that that the same line of questioning has spread westward. Politico is reporting that Colorado Democratic Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff was approached by Obama’s deputy chief of staff with several job offers to coax him out of a potential run against incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet (D). http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0610/38064.html

The question: Do these scandals matter this far away from the November elections?

In the nearby 7th district, GOP candidate Pat Meehan will visit a manufacturing company in Delaware County.  ”Issues of concern include liquidity in the lending markets, tax policy and other federal issues, as well as the declining manufacturing base in Delaware County.”

What makes Michael Smerconish tick?- Michael Smerconish is a nationally syndicated morning radio talk show host, based in Philadelphia.  According to POLITICO he has a top 10 list, some highlights include not touching his head (he’s bald), don’t send e-mails saying “You have to read this” and if he gives you a ride, don’t touch the air-conditioning.
