After learning just weeks ago that he would face a tough challenge from the man he unseated by only 1500 votes in 2006, Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-8) reported $847,753.64 in cash on hand to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), boosted by $326,499.21 raised last quarter.
With former Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R) now officially in the race, and indications of a competitive contest on its hands, Murphy’s financial operation will have to pick up its pace sooner than expected against Fitzpatrick’s proven fundraising efforts.
Murphy’s own fundraising prowess was on display in 2008 during his first re-election campaign when he raised more than $3 million, cruising to a double-digit win over GOP challenger Tom Manion.
