Democratic gubernatorial front-runner Dan Onorato said Monday he had about $6.5 million on hand to end 2009 after raising nearly $3.7 million last year, by far the most of any of his rivals for the party’s nomination.
“We are very happy with the widespread and deep support Dan’s campaign has received from across the commonwealth,” said Kevin Kinross, campaign manager, in a statement. “With more than $6.5 million cash-on-hand as of the end of the year, and continued strong fundraising in January, we are confident we will have the resources we need to educate voters about Dan’s record of accomplishment and his vision for Pennsylvania.”
Two million dollars of the money comes from Onorato’s campaign account for Allegheny County executive. The campaign said it has raised $6.1 million since he began running for governor.
Onorato faces Auditor General Jack Wagner, Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel, and Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty in the Democratic primary.
Doherty announced earlier this month he had raised nearly $450,000 for his gubernatorial campaign in 2009, while Hoeffel drew about $400,000 in contributions. Wagner’s campaign has not yet released its fundraising totals, although they are not expected to nearly match Onorato’s.
