Democratic Congressional candidate Doug Pike has $1.1 million on hand to start the new year, his campaign said in a recent release, putting the former Inquirer editorial writer in a strong financial position for upcoming primary contest.
Pike released his cash-on-hand figure in a news release last week that responded to incumbent U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach exiting the gubernatorial race. His campaign manager declined to reveal how much Pike had raised in the 4th fiscal quarter or the total amount of his fundraising.
The campaign reported it had about $750,000 on hand at the end of the third fiscal quarter. At the time, Pike had donated about $620,000 of his own money into the campaign.
Pike faces Democrat Manan Trivedi in the 6th District primary, a race many local officials see as competitive. If victorious, he will likely face Gerlach in the general election, although businessman Steve Welch might challenge him in a primary.
