Republican Lou Barletta will announce whether he’ll run for congress next Wednesday, his former campaign manager said in an e-mail sent to reporters.
“In recent days many of you have reached out to me or to Mayor Barletta directly to inquire about his potential candidacy in Pennsylvania’s 11th Congressional District,” Vince Galko wrote. “This is an important decision and Mayor Barletta is giving it the strong consideration it deserves.
“Mayor Lou Barletta will announce his decision on whether to run or not run for Congress in 2010 a week from today on Wednesday, December 9th,” he said.
Buzz over Barletta’s campaign, thought unlikely earlier this year, has been building for the last month. The mayor recently sent a letter to supporters asking them to help retire about $250,000 in debt from his 2008 campaign against Democratic incumbent Paul Kanjorski, whom he lost to narrowly.
Barletta would face Christopher Paige, a Monroe County hedge fund manager, in the Republican primary.
