Southeast Pennsylvania Congressman Patrick Murphy has endorsed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato, the Allegheny County Executive’s campaign said Friday.
The endorsement, which will be formally unveiled Saturday morning at a Philadelphia union hall, could bolster the western Pennsylvania politician’s appeal to the voter-rich southeast. Murphy is the third prominent Collar County official to endorse Onorato, joining state Senator Daylin Leach and state Rep. Mike Gerber.
Onorato faces Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty, Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel, businessman Tom Knox, and Auditor General Jack Wagner in the Democratic primary. Onorato, because of a combination of fundraising, early polling and influential allies, is considered the front-runner for the nomination.
